Seattle

It seems we always save the best for last.  Today’s adventure was unbelievable.  I’ll get the Seattle attractions out of the way and then show you what was the most amazing part of our day.

Today we would be leaving on a red eye flight back to Charlotte so we had the whole day to explore the Seattle area.  We had to take a drive by to the Pike Place Market. The Market opened in 1907 and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers’ markets in the United States.  You can get everything here from fresh caught Pacific Fish to fresh flowers, local produce and crafts.

Ye Olde Curiosity Shop is a souvenir shop that’s been around since 1899.  It was of interest to us because back in the 70’s William sold his “made in Alaska giftware” to them.

On the same street was the original Star Bucks.

No visit to Seattle is complete without seeing the Seattle Space Needle.  It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and has become an icon for Seattle.  We took an elevator to the top and saw unbelievable views of the city.

Now for the exciting part of our day.  If you ever have the opportunity to see Dale Chihuly Blown Glass don’t pass it up.  Chihuly was born in Tacoma, Washington.  After his first year in college he dropped out and moved to Florence Italy to study art.   He is best known for his very large public displays of his blown glass art.  My first exposure to his art was in Rochester, MN at the Mayo Clinic which I posted and shared with you last year.  And now I am privileged to share with you what I saw here in the Seattle Center.

I’ll start with Dale Chihuly’s picture.

Wow! That is really beautiful. I am so sad I missed the exhibit when it was at Biltmore last year.
