Thursday evening William and I called on our friends Steve and Priscilla to drive us to the Charlotte airport so we could catch our flight heading to Nairobi, Kenya. It was a very long flight but not so terrible when your hubby informs you that you both have just been upgraded to Business Class. This was a first for me but I hope not the last. My seat had all the comforts necessary for a good nights sleep allowing us to arrive the next morning very refreshed in London to board our flight on to Nairobi. It was exciting to see the Thames River even if from the air and the London Eye, the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheel.

We even got a glimpse of the London Bridge, the oldest river crossing in London, which has been rebuilt multiple times, from timber to stone and concrete and steel.

It took every bit of our 2 hour layover at Heathrow, UK’s largest airport, to navigate our way to the British Air connection flight that would take us on to Kenya. We arrived at 9:00 PM where we were greeted by Emily, our host from African Horizons. She assisted us in collecting our two very big and heavy bags containing donations for a local school here in Kenya and a smaller primary school outside the city in a small village. It wasn’t long before we were loading our luggage into the Safari vehicle that we will be calling home for the next twelve days.

Our excitement kept smiles on our faces but the truth is we both were exhausted and ready to check into the Nairobi Serena Hotel, Nairobi’s best 5 star hotel. We will stay here for two nights before beginning our first Safari to Amboseli.

Amboseli National Park is located in southern Kenya about a 4 hours drive from Nairobi. It’s known for its large elephant herds and views of the immense Mount Kilimanjaro. We are going to leave early morning tomorrow so we will tell you more about this part of our journey in our next post. I’m hoping I’ll have both available wifi and the time to keep you updated as we travel in the bush but if not I’ll collect lots of photos and share the adventure as soon as I can.

Hope you have a wonderful adventure.
