Easy day boating on the Mediterranean

Our host for the apartment we’ve been calling home this last week took us out on the Mediterranean Sea today.  It was a bit windy and the waves a bit choppy but William and I being the boating enthusiast that we are didn’t let that stop us from going out.

The waters here are very clear but just a tint off the colors we are accustomed to seeing the the BVI.  There were lots of caves and places for snorkeling had the sea been a little calmer.

We did get a look at some artifacts left over from WWII.

And we saw these guys farming mussels.   LaSpezia is known world wide for it’s mussels.  They fill their nets with baby mussels and then hang them in the water to grow.  Anywhere you see a vertical bobbing plastic float they have baby mussels growing.  It takes about 6 months for them to mature.

Tomorrow we will be site seeing at Pisa.  Can’t come here and NOT see the Leaning Tower.
